ACGM Sponsors Basel III Conference
New York, NY – The Bank Finance LatAm 2014 – Capital Solutions for Financial Institutions - conference took place today at The Pierre, New York. The event, organized by Latin Finance magazine and sponsored by ACGM, Inc. (“ACGM”), focused on the capital needs of LatAm financial institutions and the new challenges brought about by the implementation of Basel III across the region. The conference was well attended by high level executives from numerous Latin America issuers, the IFC, and high-profile investors.
Carlos Abadi, ACGM's President and CEO took part in the opening panel discussion titled The State of Latin American Banks: Basel III Implementation & Consequences to Bank Funding. A panel of experienced bankers, lawyers and issuers discussed the state of the Latin American banking sector and how funding strategies, innovations such as hybrid debt products, and planning is changing in light of imminent Basel III implementation. During the panel, Mr. Abadi discussed ACGM’s Financial Institutions Recapitalization group’s work developing groundbreaking cost-efficient structures for raising CET 1 capital.
Other panels throughout the day long event included participants from Bancolombia, Banco Santander México, Mizuho, IADB, Bancoldex, BNY Mellon, IFC Asset Management Company, Banco Itau, BNP Paribas, Banorte, CAF, BBVA Bancomer, Mackay Shields, Banco Ciudad de Buenos Aires, and many others. Panel discussion topics included, among others, cross-border debt funding strategies, loans & syndications, and structured finance & securitizations.
The conference provided an opportunity for LatAm FI and NBFI issuers to connect with investors, bankers and advisors for high-level discussions on capital market funding strategies, innovative treasury solutions, regional M&A and evolving regulations through panel discussions, expert presentations, and private 1-1 meetings.
ACGM’s Alfredo (“Dino”) de Angelis, a Senior Managing Director at the firm, noted that the conference facilitated extremely important discussions about the practical implications of Basel III and provided valuable opportunities for identifying where clients’ needs and concerns lie.
“The discussions today provided great insights regarding clients’ most pressing concerns and where they need assistance in order to navigate and comply with the new requirements stemming from Basel III. Events like these are all about maintaining thought leadership through nurturing a dialogue with clients and industry peers so that we stay at the forefront of industry developments and offer the right solutions to clients, delivering them value in the areas where it is most needed, for example by delivering unique cost-efficient capital raising solutions”
Andres Azicri, ACGM’s Southern Cone Representative and a Managing Director, commented that the event was an excellent opportunity for LatAm issuers and investors to discuss alternative solutions for meeting increased regulatory capital requirements.
“Issuers are examining all of their capital raising options and are clearly very interested in the proprietary CET 1 raising capital solutions developed by ACGM’s Financial Institutions Recapitalizations group.”
