Oxbridge Students Visit ACGM
New York, NY – Earlier today, students from Oxbridge Academic Programs visited ACGM’s New York office to learn about careers in finance. The group of around 30 students, aged between 14 and 18 (grades 9-12), are enrolled in a summer academic program held at Barnard College of Columbia University in New York. The students, who hail from many different countries, are studying a wide-range of disciplines, including: Advertising and Media, International Business, Journalism and Politics & Human Rights.
The Oxbridge students were given a tour of ACGM’s New York office and an overview of the services an investment bank provides to its clients. They then listened to several speakers discuss various topics that are important in the field of investment banking and within the broader context of finance, public policy, economics and business. Carlos Abadi, ACGM’s CEO, began by discussing how macro-economic trends impact client needs and ACGM’s strategy – the example of Brexit was given as one timely example, but the students also identified many other relevant trends. Carlos’s presentation was followed by William Lyons, ACGM’s Chief Compliance Officer, discussing the increasingly important role that compliance plays in the lives of finance professionals. Several other ACGM professionals then made presentations walking students through typical transactions and the financial analysis techniques used to examine various companies. Finally, ACGM’s Chief Operating Officer, Barbara Abadi, highlighted the character traits that the firm looks for in its employees and the importance of these traits in hiring decisions.
The presentations were followed by a lively question and answer session which touched upon many different areas of the profession and on wider economic events. Barbara Abadi commented on the importance of engaging with students through initiatives such as the Oxbridge Academic Programs.
“Seeing finance professionals within their daily working environment, and hearing first-hand about the profession, offers invaluable insights to students who are considering their future career paths,” Barbara said. Developing the next generation of leading finance professionals is vital to our firm’s long-term success and initiatives like this can open the world of finance to a new audience, exciting and engaging young men and women from around the world.”
The New York City Oxbridge Academic Program runs from June 25th to July 22nd. The visit was arranged in collaboration with Dr. David Spigelman, an Oxbridge Academic Program leader and a Lecturer in Economics and Finance at the University of Miami School of Business. David is an experienced finance veteran who was involved in the early development of the emerging markets asset class and who, earlier in his career, held senior level positions at Morgan Stanley, The Americas Trust Bank and First Chicago Corporation.

The Abadi & Co. team prides itself on its ability to guide clients through difficult and groundbreaking transactions, even in situations where the structuring complexities and challenges would have thwarted others.
Abadi & Co.’s experienced team works on a range of transactions, including mergers & acquisitions, debt & equity capital markets issues and recapitalizations. It caters to a global client base which includes companies, governments and financial institutions, across North America, Latin America, Europe and the Middle East. The firm’s clients appreciate having direct access to a senior banker 24/7; they value the discretion of Abadi & Co.'s smaller team and are relieved of the conflict of interest concerns inherent in working with larger investment banks, which often look to cross-sell other products and services. In order to prevent conflicts of interest, and to ensure the independence of the firm's advice, Abadi & Co. does not conduct trading or manage investments.
