Carlos Abadi is President and CEO of Abadi & Co. and spearheads the structuring and delivery of high-value solutions to complex financial challenges around the world. As a pioneer in the emerging markets asset class, Carlos thrives in volatile and distressed situations. He draws upon his more than thirty years of experience successfully navigating dislocated markets to provide expert advice and practical financial solutions to clients around the world. He is a recognized authority on emerging markets, financial institutions, recapitalization, restructuring, debt renegotiation and special situations. Carlos has worked on numerous transactions in these fields, including the Refco bankruptcy where he played a central role in the bankruptcy resolution. He continues to serve as a Member of the Boards of the Refco Litigation Trust and the Refco Private Actions Trust.
Since founding Abadi & Co. in 1991, Carlos has been providing a broad array of financial advisory, valuation and restructuring solutions to emerging market governments, banks and private sector companies in North America, Latin America, Europe and the Middle East. He has experience trading and investing in the distressed debt of all major international debt crises of the past three decades, including: the Latin American and Eastern European debt crises of the 1980s and 1990s; the massive Argentina default in 2001; and the recent European debt crisis. Early in his career, Carlos spent five years at the First National Bank of Chicago, where he was Head Trader- Emerging Market Debt Trading.
Carlos previously sat on the Board of Roubini Global Economics. He has delivered guest lectures at Columbia University, Harvard University, INSEAD and New York University. Carlos is frequently quoted in media outlets including the Financial Times and Bloomberg News. He earned his Masters of Business Administration (Finance) from Cornell University's Johnson School of Business and a Masters of Industrial Engineering from Universidad de Buenos Aires.
